Biography:
Barry L. Zoumas is the Alan R. Warehime Professor of Agribusiness in the College of Agricultural Sciences at the Pennsylvania State University. Dr. Zoumas is the first professor to hold this Chair in the College. He also is a Professor or Food Science and Nutrition and is active in teaching, research and executive education.
Dr. Zoumas has a background both as a scientist and a businessman. In 1997 he retired as Vice President of Science and Technology from Hershey Foods Corporation where he had been employed for 27 years. At Hershey he was responsible for all corporate technical activities including Research and Development, Quality Assurance, Corporate Engineering, Environmental and Regulatory Affairs and Agribusiness. Prior to joining Penn State’s faculty, Dr. Zoumas spent 6 months as a visiting scientist at the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations in Rome, Italy.
Dr. Zoumas is active in many scientific and professional associations. He is a past chairman of the Chocolate Manufactures Association of America’s Technical committee, and also past chairman for the Grocery Manufactures of America Scientific and Regulatory Affairs Committee. He is currently a member of the National Academy of Sciences Food and Nutrition Board, and has been an advisor to US AID, FDA, and USDA.
Dr. Zoumas is a member of the International Food and Agribusiness Management Association, the American Chemical Society, The American Society of Nutritional Sciences, and the Institute of Food Technology.
Dr Zoumas is a native of Reading, Pa., and holds a B.S. in Chemistry from Kutztown State College. At Penn State he earned his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in nutrition. He is also a graduate of the Senior Management Program at Stanford University.
