Industry Intro

Innovative research is conducted in our core areas of expertise including food chemistry, engineering, process development, and microbiology. State-of-the-art scientific and technical expertise can assist you with operational, quality, food safety, and regulatory issues vital to the success of your company. The department offers a variety of short courses, workshops, and technical training opportunities relevant to scientific and technical issues in the food industry.

Sensory Evaluation Center
The Sensory Evaluation Center in the Penn State Department of Food Science has been conducting sensory evaluation and consumer tests for University researchers and food industries since 1972.
Center for Food Manufacturing
The Center for Food Manufacturing is a partnership between The Pennsylvania State University and corporate members to meet the challenges of productivity, competitiveness, and safety in food processing and manufacturing. Its mission is to address the scientific and engineering needs of the food industry and thereby strengthen this portion of the economy through research, development, and technology transfer.
Berkey Creamery
The Berkey Creamery operates within the Food Science Department to offer courses and workshops in dairy processing, sanitation, and the chemical and microbiological analysis of food. It also offers a short course in ice-cream making.

PA Food Ventures is your one-stop information source for small- and medium-sized food businesses, as well as for those who are thinking about starting a new food business!
Food Industry Group
The Penn State Food Industry Group (PSFIG) is an Affiliate Program Group of the Penn State Alumni Association and the College of Agricultural Sciences. The purpose of this group is to unite Penn State Food Science alumni, faculty, students, and friends in a network that supports the food science department's programs and activities.
Pilot Plants
The state-of-the-art Food Science Pilot Plants are designed for processing flexibility with an emphasis on product specialization. The facilities are used for teaching, research and industry projects.
