Food Science Finalist in Institute of Food Technologists Student Association (IFTSA) Product Development Competition

The Food Science Product Development Team was selected as one of six finalists in the Institute of Food Technologists Student Association (IFTSA) Product Development Competition.

The Product Development Team members include:  juniors, Sanja Cvitkusic (chair of committee) and Annette Hartzell, sophomore Zachary Evanitsky, and freshmen, Lauren Popescu, Ryan McClafferty, Jason Zhang, and Nicole O'Block.  The team is advised by Dr. Gregory Ziegler.

The team submitted a description and photos on February 13th for their “filled confection that uses a novel technology for the coating.”  Final submissions are due by May 23rd.

Product Development Competition is a chance for students to apply the skills and knowledge learned in school to a real-world situation. Each team develops a new food idea and carries the concept through marketing and production, much like a commercial product development team. The product development competition challenges organizational, teamwork, creative, and scientific skills.

The team will travel to the Institute of Food Technologists Annual Meeting & Food Expo in Anaheim, CA in June 2009 to present their finished product (poster and presentation) in the final competition.

Congratulations and good luck in the finals!
