Scheinberg Receives 2013 Graduate Student Leadership Award

As a graduate student, Josh served as a teaching assistant in Food Science 409 (Food Microbiology) as well as an instructor for several outreach programs (Food Microbiology Short course, Food Mycology Short Course, and the Food Sanitation Short Course) offered to food industry professionals. Josh was awarded the 2010 Casida Food Safety Fellowship in recognition of his academic accomplishments. In 2011 Josh received the Robert D. and Jeanne L. McCarthy Memorial Teaching Award for his teaching accomplishments in FDSC 409 and with several outreach and Extension-related programs. Additionally, Josh serves as the student representative for the Institute of Food Technologist - Food Microbiology Division and is a member of the Penn State Graduate Student Association, Gamma Sigma Delta Honor Society, and Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.

Josh is also a U.S Air Force Veteran, and an active member in several professional societies including, the Institute of Food Technologist (IFT), The International Association for Food Protection, The American Meat Science Association, and The American Society for Microbiology. Josh has published in several professional journals including Journal of Extension, Food Control, and Journal of Food Safety. Josh's research on farmers' markets was also recently featured in the New York Times's Well Blog and Modern Farmer.
